New Server

New Server

This document provides instructions for switching the computer that runs the STX Server software and contains the STX database. ALWAYS contact the Technical Support department prior to switching to a new Server. Any of our highly knowledgeable Support Team members will be able to guide you through the process. Without our help and guidance, the integrity of your data may be at risk.

Important: Plan to switch Servers on a normal business day, starting in the morning. This will allow you to contact STX Software if you need assistance. There is no support available at night and this procedure is outside the scope of Emergency Weekend Technical Support.

Obtaining a New License Key: New / Temporary Server

Since STX is licensed to run the Server software on a specific computer, you will need to obtain a new license key before proceeding.

Important: You must call during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Eastern Time. You will receive your new license key via e-mail within 48 hours of your request. License keys for requests made after 4:00 PM Eastern will be issued on the next business day. License keys cannot be issued on weekends or holidays.

In an emergency, such as your server crashing, you must contact the Technical Support department and have a recent backup available to restore onto a new/temporary server.

Note: You do not need to continue with this section for obtaining a new license key if you are getting your current server repaired and it will once again be your server when returned.

Go to the Apple menu and select About This Mac.

Click More Info

Click System Report

Highlight the word Network on the left- hand side column.

On the top right, highlight the word Ethernet. If you do not have Ethernet as an option, highlight the word Wi-Fi instead.

STX Login

Logging in for the first time after installing the STX software will require a password change. Changing the password (OWNER or employee) is required in order for the STX software to remain PCI Compliant for electronic credit card processing.

Whether or not you are currently processing credit cards through the STX software, the password change requirement will still exist.

Due to credit card compliancy requirements, the process of changing the password will be repeated on a regular basis.

After restoring the data, launch the STX software. The Login screen will appear.

NOTE: If you are logging in using the OWNER password, be sure to remember what you are changing it to. For the protection of your STX data, do not tell anyone else what the new OWNER password is.

Immediately after logging in, either with OWNER or employee password, the following screen will appear.

Type the New Password and again to verify the new password.

Click Change Password.

Passwords must be 7 or 8 characters in length and contain a mix of letters and at least 1 non-alphabetic character. Note: You may not ever reuse an old password.

Enter a valid Email Address or Mobile Phone Number to recover your OWNER password in the event you have forgotten what it is.

Go to Setup, and then to the Password option.

Enter Current Password.

Enter New Password, and again to Verify Password.

Enter a valid Email Address or Mobile Phone Number to recover your OWNER password in the event you have forgotten what it is.

If you are having your original server repaired, follow the same steps as detailed above to restore the STX data back onto the original server.
