Database Backups and Restores

Your STX data contains extremely important information that is vital to the success of your business. Always safeguard your STX data by routinely doing nightly backups, at the end of each business day. You must use the STX Backups feature to make backups of your STX data. Failure to properly back up your data may result in lost or corrupted data. We urge you to maintain copies of each backup on a flash drive or other device in the event that your computers are stolen or the hard drives crash.

If your Online Services subscription is current, you do not need to back up with the STX Backups feature. The backups are being automatically taken and held in a remote location. Each backup is in 'real-time' and can easily be restored onto a new or temporary computer, meaning you never have to worry about the safety of your STX data.

Creating and Saving a Backup

The Backups option can be found in the STX Menu.
A new backup is automatically created on a weekly basis as long as the STX Server computer is left on. However, a new backup can be created at any time by going to the Backups option in the STX Menu from any computer using the STX software. Only one backup file can be created at any given time.
  1. To create a new backup, click Backup Now. The new backup will appear in the Backup list.
  2. To save a copy of an existing backup, click Save To…
    1.  Saved copies of the backups may be created from the STX Server only.
  3. Navigate to where you would like to save the backup copy and click Save.

    2. Be sure to save the backup copy to an external device, such as a flash drive, that you can take with you.

Employee Security

Employee security options are available, allowing the employee to perform the backup functions.
  1. To enable the employee security, go to Setup: Employee: Security.
  2. The Backups security options are found under STX Menu: Backups.
  3. Check the items for which you wish to allow the employee access.
