Switch User Security

Switch User Security

The STX Switch User feature will allow another user to log in when necessary and remembers open windows and window positions for each user. This means you can leave windows open, switch users to make them disappear and switch back to have them reappear just as you left them.

 Switching Users

  1. Employees currently logged in will have a check mark next to their name.
  2. Employees currently logged in with pending changes (unsaved windows) will be listed with a dash next to their name. NOTE: It is required the currently logged in user Save all unsaved windows before switching to a new user.
  3. The current “active” user will be listed in a faint GRAY color.

How to Switch

  1. If you want to walk away and “secure” STX on the computer, use the keyboard command of Command-U, as shown next to the Switch User… menu option. The Log In screen will appear and any open windows will appear translucent.
  2. The next user may log in by typing the Employee ID and Password, or by using the fingerprint device to scan a fingerprint. The previous user’s open windows will disappear.
    1. When a user logs back in again, all of the previously open windows return just as they were left.
    2. The owner may select any logged in user under the User menu and authenticate using the OWNER’s password, or fingerprint, to access the other user’s windows.  This is especially useful if an employee forgets to save some changes, clock out, or log out and is no longer available.
      3. Use the Clear Menu option to clear all users from the Users menu.

Logging Out and Quitting STX

Each employee logged into STX on a computer should log out by going to the File menu and selecting the Log Out option. The Log In window will appear for the next user to log in, and then properly log out.

If an employee goes to the STX menu and selects the Quit STX option, or uses the keyboard command of Command-Q, the following dialog will appear when attempting to quit STX while multiple users are logged in.

Important: Employees actually quitting the STX program must always check the Users menu to make sure no employees have a dash next to their names signifying pending changes. If they do, either the employee with the pending changes, or the owner must log in to save and close the open unsaved screens before proceeding to quit STX.

Click Quit Anyway to quit STX and lose any unsaved changes of other users.

Click Cancel to keep STX running.

Click LogOut to log out, but leave STX running with the Log In window open so the next user can log in and then properly log out.
