Import Products

STX allows you to import products into the system. Once you have set up your Manufacturers, Product Lines and Product Groups, you can optionally set up your Suppliers as well. Supplier set up is only required if the products you intend to import contain a Supplier name.

To prepare STX for the product import, go to Setup: Products.

Make sure all appropriate product Groups are entered.

Make sure all appropriate Manufacturers and associated Product Lines are entered.

Make sure all appropriate Suppliers are entered.

The file you intend to import can be in either Comma-Separated-Values (CSV) or Tab-Delimited (TAB) formats.

The first row of your file must contain Column Names of the values you intend to import. They can be in any order and must all appear, even if the fields underneath are left blank. The Column Names are as follows:

Again, all column names must appear on your file, however not all fields underneath the column names are required. There are 5 required column names where the fields must be filled in. The required column name fields are as follows:

  • ManufacturerName
  • ProductLine
  • GroupName
  • ProductName
  • StockNumber (May contain a mix of alpha-numeric characters)

You may not leave any of the fields underneath these column names empty.

IMPORTANT: Your file must not contain apostrophes, non-letter, or non-numerical characters. For example, L’Oreal must be entered as LOreal. Any field containing characters other than letters, spaces, or numbers will cause the import to fail.

To import your product file, go to Setup: Products, and click the Products tab.

Click the Import Products button.

Find your product file, and click Open.

If all of the column names and information were entered correctly on your product file, the import will proceed without error.

Once the products are imported, you can preview them in the Products list and make sure they appear as expected.

If you wish to re-import the same list, close the Product Setup window without saving any changes and try again. Alternatively, you can make adjustments to the imported products and save.
